There is No Neutral Choice

Reed Summers speaks after the public Broadcast on Night 17 of the 2018 Steps Vigil, June 11, 2018 | There is No Neutral Choice
Life is choosing. There is no neutral choice. You know choosing happens all the time and there’s no neutral choice. We’re all preparing to be captains of our own ship, the ship of your life. And when you’re in the water, the water is always moving you somewhere. You know, if you just put the sails down, the ship’s still moving. It’s still going somewhere. There’s nowhere to hide from the fact of what life now is, which is: you are going somewhere, even if you choose to not go somewhere.
And I guess for those who are lost in the world, continuing to be lost looks very normal. It’s like that’s, that’s what’s normal, you know? You’re already lost, stay lost—seems like that’s stable and known and safe. But it’s ma–, it’s a major choice, huge choice.
So we, who are learning (chuckles) to not be lost, who are actually found and have been called and have come, we’re being given our ship and just this very real truth that every day is a choice. Choosing to be ambivalent and withheld and hang back is a major choice. And it will have consequences as real as what we may think of as a very important choice, a Knowledge-guided choice.
So I, I, sitting in my seat tonight, am asking, you know, “So Reed, what will, what will you do in light of all of this?
“What will you choose?”

Sobering words. We must be ever alert. Even no choice will take us somewhere. Are we paying attention? Do we even know where that somewhere will be? It’s like we are on the moving sidewalks at the airport. Some sidewalks/choices may have no way to get off for quite a while. We may pass by where we needed to get off but there’s no exit. We may find ourselves committed where we don’t want to be. We must treat our lives with great care.
Thank you Reed, it seems so simple but easily overlooked. What will I choose today, everyday, every moment of every day? Thank you. I’ll take this teaching with me and keep it in the fore front.
